Maggie's Hamster Rescue started
all because of one
little 7 year old girl and her love for animals.
And 3 years later, we have saved
over 500 little critters, from hammies, gerbils, guinea pigs,
rats, bunnies, chinchillas and even a ferret. A few have gone
on to the Rainbow Bridge, unwanted, yet loved by Maggie and her
friends until they passed away from old age. We've had litters
born in the rescue, dropped off by folks that didn't want to
take care of their mistaken breedings, we've had seizures of
animals from people that really shouldn't have had animals in
the first place and we've helped families who were moving and
couldn't take their little critters with them.
My children have learned about
life and death and the responsibility of having pets the hard
way! Yet, they never complained and took care of these critters
daily, even when we had over 100 animals at one time!
Unfortunately, the time has come
that we can no longer provide this service for the community.
Family changes have created a need for us to move on and to find
homes for our little friends in the rescue. We are in the process
of readying our house for the market, and find it difficult to
rent a home with so many animals. And to be perfectly honest,
we could use the break. Right now, we have secured good homes
in either foster care homes, rescues through the tri-state area
and through animal groups.
Thank you! Everyone has
a home now!
Through the years, this service
to the community has been so incredibly rewarding to Maggie and
us all. With Maggie's difficulties, she has blossomed with the
desire to help those little critters in need and it has been
simply wonderful for her. We hope to continue our efforts in
the future, but right now, our family needs are our first priority.
I hope that everyone will understand.
Don't worry, Maggie will still
have her own personal pocket pets friends, little Esther the
hammie and Spirit, her teddybear hammie and of course piggies
Mulan and Saukuri. Her sister Jessy has her little rattie gang
of Noel, Holly and Flick and Gom'e.
As
of July 1, 2004, we will no longer be able to take in any more
animals.
We will be compiling a list of
other rescues in the area that might be able to help.
If you were ever considering starting
a small animal rescue, now is the time. Please contact us and
we would be happy to assist you, and provide cages and materials
to the right folks able to carry on our work.

I would like to thank everyone
that has helped in the last 3 years and for everyone's kind words
and blessings through this time of change for our family.
In the meanwhile, please let people
know if you can, and we'll be contacting local areas as well
to inform them of the changes. We appreciate your support and
good wishes! It is a bittersweet parting, and we hope that someone
will take over the mantle of hamster rescuer! Maggie would like
that!
SIncerely,
Sherri,
Maggie and Jessy Chekal
Over 500 animals
saved, rescued and placed in loving homes during our 3 years
of service!
